Poem Essay
The first poem performance I want to talk about is "Red Wheelbarrow". It seems to me, this group performance was very creative. Even though the poem itself is very simple and short, this group expended a lot and showed the poem successfully. The performance shows a story based on the poem that is about rural girl's life with the farm. I think this group accurately turned the key words in the poem "Chicken", and the title " Red wheel barrow" into a whole new story, a story with their imagination. The performance seemed it had no connection with the original poem. Nevertheless, do not people think about rural life when you hear the words chicken or red wheelbarrow? I think those two girls did a very good job to bring a new story on the stage based on the text of the poem.
The second performance that caught my eye was " I,too" by Lauren, Mia and Conner. They created a situation that two friends are eating and another guy wants to come join them but he is refused. It absolutely turns the line "I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen" into the performance. They actually repeated the situation they sat but Conner's attitude changed. Conner did a very good job to show the changing of the attitude which shows the line he mentioned before the repeated scene, also the line from the poem "Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table" , "Nobody’ll dare
Say to me...". They successfully showed the audience the theme of the poem, compare to the performance I talked above, it mostly turned the words in to the performance.
