Hamlet

QUEEN GERTRUDE Ay me, what act, That roars so loud, and thunders in the index? HAMLET Look here, upon this picture, and on this, The counterfeit presentment of two brothers. See, what a grace was seated on this brow; Hyperion's curls; the front of Jove himself; An eye like Mars, to threaten and command; A station like the herald Mercury   New-lighted on a heaven-kissing hill; A combination and a form indeed, Where every god did seem to set his seal, To give the world assurance of a man: This was your husband. Look you now, what follows: Here is your husband; like a mildew'd ear, Blasting his wholesome brother. Have you eyes? Could you on this fair mountain leave to feed, And batten on this moor? Ha! have you eyes? You cannot call it love; for at your age The hey-day in the blood is tame, it's humble, And waits upon the judgment: and what judgment Would step from this to this? Sense, sure, you have, Else could you not have motion; but sure, th...

Student's Monologue

I would like to stage Jeff's songnalogue, I think it's called When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars. First,  this song is about a man's regret of a woman he loves. He didn't realize how much he loves her when he was young, now he wants her to come back, but she can't. This monologue is definitely sad, depressing and full of tears. When I stage it, I want to show the weakness of the man. Therefore, I would set my stage as a park in the fall. The park might be the place that the man and the lady first met, and since it's in fall, so there are a lot of leaves fell down and cool wind to render the sadness.  I would use blowers to create the effect of wind. The stage would be full of fallen leaves, and also the actor can wear a long coat to show that the season is fall. The main sound I would like to say is the sound of strong wind. Moreover, I want to use more actor to wandering on the back group, they can act as couples to emphasize the main character's loneliness....

City of Stars

I would like to use very slight silence music rather than the raining sound. Literally, the actor did the movement more like dancing, but I think I would let the actor dancing less but more likely wandering around. The atmosphere would be dark but there would be a light following the actor's movement. The stage would be the bank of a river, and the actor is all alone.

Directing unit

Henry V was written in 1599 by Shakespeare. It's telling a story that was history then. He is using that story at a number of questions that were very timely for his audience and also for our audience. The questions of what it is to be a leader, what your responsibilities are, what it is actually to listen to your people or not and to know who's being impacted by the decision you are making are incredibly timely. The interesting part of the play is that the juxtaposition between the original play and modern rock songs. That makes the show exciting fresh and timeless. For this show, they use the Austin production and also Oklahoma. The Austin production really works well, not only the original play but the rock show within the original play. Lighting always is the big part of this rock playing. The most important question when you are reading a play in term of staging it is "What is the dynamic of the play", "What is the main action to play". A play is r...

Theatre product about other groups.

I just want to start with the product of Pacifica. It seems to me that they used light very well, especially the light that's on follows the actor's movement and the rain sound, it gave me a sense of pleasing, and it contrasts mood that the actor put in. When the light turned down, for me it's really peaceful.  Another thing that really added points to them is that the umbrella. For, the monologue of Hannah's group, I would like to say they are the only group that more the one people acted. Therefore, their monologue had more possibilities. There is a moment that impressing, Jess exposed her head from the back and used gesture to communicate with Jordan. I'm not sure whether it was spontaneous, but it was definitely a wonderful movement. I would like to discuss the weakness of our group here. I mean everyone did a great job, but however, if we had more time to prepare, I think I would think about the light a little bit more. The light is wonderful,  but for me, ...

Theatre writting about my own group and the stage setting

We have done our theatre product last week as a group. We chose the songnalpgue that Mao has done and we added other things like music lights and filmed it. I think it’s pretty good. First of all,Mao did a really good job, no matter the emotion she put on the monologue and the tone she uesd, they was all wonderful. I would like to say Mao's acting was the main reason that we could build such a good vibe for the audiences. Moreover, we also have used other things to color our product. We really chose a very good place to act. We filmed in the back room of the stage, it is a narrow room with a very smooth dark light. It is just suitable for our production. We didn't want the vibe of the whole monologue to be tremendously sad, but we did want it to be depressing. The room is not dark like crazy, the light is just on that point. Another thing that I think we used to color our monologue is that the music, I played guitar for our product, I used very quiet licks to express the mood...

Sound in theatre

The sound  designer is in charge of anything that is heard during the production. This includes life or recorded music and  sound  effects as well as the vocal projection of the actors, both speaking and singing. A bit History Around 3000BC, China and India accompanied their theatrical productions with incorporated music and sound, and we know of examples of sound used throughout the history of theatre. In Greek tragedies and comedies the productions call for storms, earthquakes, and thunder when gods appear. There is an extensive history of the machinery that was used scenically; and even though there are only a few mentions of it, there were also uses of machinery in place for the few sound effects they needed. In the Roman theatre, Heron of Alexandria invented the thunder machine using brass balls that would drop onto dried hides arranged like a kettledrum, and the wind machine with fabric draped over the rotating wheel. In 1913, Italian Futurist composer Luigi ...
